Van Hoytema won an Oscar for his work on ‘Oppenheimer’, and he couldn’t help but wax poetic about the beauty of shooting on film in his acceptance speech.

The cinematographer, who’s known for his collaborations with director Christopher Nolan, called film “much closer to the human visual experience” than digital.

“There’s still nothing that beats the resolution, depth, color, and roundness of the analog image,” he said.

Van Hoytema used Kodak’s new black-and-white film stock, which was specially made for the movie, and said seeing the footage was “freaking inspiring”.

“When you watch an analog print, especially in an IMAX theatre, the level of impact is freaking inspiring” he added.
Kodak’s motion picture film head chimed in, saying that Van Hoytema’s “love and appreciation for film is evident in every frame” and that the company has “tremendous respect” for him.

If this doesn’t renew the industry’s interest in celluloid, it’s hard to say what will.

The crowd, however, didn’t hold back, with many shouting a resounding “yes”.

Context: OpenAI and other AI makers argue scraping public data without artist compensation or credit is legally covered by fair use. Artists, naturally, disagree.

Even though OpenAI lets artists opt out of their work being used in training, some find the process onerous. Deng noted artists should have more say but didn't offer specifics.

YouTube has become a game-changer for photographers looking to showcase their work, share behind-the-scenes footage, and connect with a global audience.

The platform’s benefits extend beyond just views, potentially opening doors for sponsorships, brand deals, and more. Converting viewers into clients is also a possibility, with photographers using YouTube as a more personal portfolio.

Sharing the process of creating stunning shots can help combat the rise of AI-generated doubt about photo authenticity.
Meanwhile, the ability to meet like-minded creators and build confidence in public speaking makes YouTube a versatile tool for photographers.

In terms of monetization, YouTube can serve as an additional sales channel for prints, presets, and workshop spots. Although building a successful channel isn’t easy, the opportunities it offers in today’s digital landscape are hard to ignore.
