The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has agreed on a historic new contract that could revolutionize Hollywood's workings. The contract includes substantial pay increases, particularly for high budget subscription video on demand and streaming films. Notably, writers of streaming features can expect a minimum compensation increase of 18%, provided the film budget was at least $30 million, along with a 26% increase in residual base.
The contract also addresses the use of artificial intelligence (AI). AI will not be able to write or rewrite literary material, and AI-generated content cannot be used as source material. Furthermore, the WGA reserves the right to call out any exploitation of writers' material to train AI. This move will enforce stringent regulation on AI's role in scriptwriting and protect the creative rights of writers, significantly altering Hollywood's existing dynamics.

The upcoming PhotoVogue Festival 2023, set to take place from November 16-19 in Milan, has sparked a debate by deciding to feature AI-generated imagery alongside traditional photography. Themed "Image in the Age of AI. What Makes Us Human," the festival aims to foster dialogue around the rapidly evolving landscape of visual arts and the potential ethical, authenticity, and curation challenges posed by AI-generated content.
Mastering the use of high frame rate stock footage can significantly elevate visual storytelling. Experts advise using it sparingly, as it can lend a hyper-realistic feel that may not suit all narratives. It's ideal for slowing down action sequences while retaining clarity, or creating a sense of heightened reality. Be sure to match it carefully with standard frame rate footage for a seamless viewing experience.
The 8K debate continues to engage visual enthusiasts. The benefits of 8K aren't just about higher resolution, but also flexibility in post-production, higher dynamic range, better low light performance, and future-proofing your work. High-res sensors also allow multi-format use of lenses. Though viewed as overkill by some, 8K offers a path to emulate the look of celluloid IMAX 65mm prints, and opens up possibilities for technological advancement.

It discusses emotional intelligence exercises and the use of 'Emotion Wheels' to enhance emotional self-awareness and to map emotional transitions. Recognizing emotional subtext is crucial for authentic character depiction, leading to more engaging narratives.
