Netflix

Netflix is set to remain the dominant player in the streaming market through 2024, according to a report from Ampere, despite new platforms like Apple TV+ and Disney+ making inroads.

Ampere predicts that Netflix will add 25.2 million subscribers globally this year, more than Spotify and Disney+. Quite the show.

No competition: Netflix isnā€™t losing any sleep over Apple TV+ and Disney+ climbing the ranks. Indeed, the report suggests Netflix will add nearly two-times more subscribers than Disney+ this year (25.2 million to 13.6 million).

Pause for ads: Netflixā€™s ad-free experience continues to draw subscribers. About 2% of Netflixā€™s premium tier subscribers plan to cancel their service in the next three months, compared to 3% who are thinking about switching to the lower-cost ad-supported plan.

Opportunity cost: With most of Netflixā€™s new international subscribers coming from lower ARPU (average revenue per user) markets, those who cut the cord are a big opportunity for the streaming king. Some 29% of churned subscribers plan on resubscribing in the next quarter.

The bottom line: Ampereā€™s report serves as another reminder of Netflixā€™s unrivaled global footprintā€”something its streaming peers are still working on.

Meta will offer an ad-free option across its European Instagram and Facebook apps for up to $14/month, which is effective for users declining data personalization.

Metaā€™s ad-free revenue opportunity on Facebook and Instagram could help it comply with the Digital Services Act while tapping into a popular app economy trend of ad-free models.

Social media promises to protect privacy and seems to be doubling down on subscriptions as a means of equitable revenue generation.
