In an effort to tackle the growing implications of AI on photography and copyright issues, Getty Images CEO Craig Peters has taken a definitive stance. Addressing the issue at the recent Code Conference, Peters shared that Getty has launched a generative AI tool. Trained on Getty's owned or licensed images, the tool creates AI photography while respecting Intellectual Property (IP) rights, thus avoiding infringement of third-party IP.

Peters also spoke about Getty's commitment to quality and authenticity in the face of rising deepfake concerns. A new compensation model is being implemented for photographers whose images contribute to AI training, based on their contribution and historical licensing performance. This is part of Getty's larger initiative to uphold IP rights, with the firm actively engaging with other tech companies to address IP issues in AI and opposing the ""fair use"" argument for AI training on copyrighted material without permission or compensation.

Fujifilm, once a leader in print photography, is reportedly neglecting this crucial aspect of its business, diminishing the value of print and potentially hurting the industry. Sources state that despite having features in their cameras to print images directly to Instax printers, the function is nonoperational. This issue is seen as a significant setback, as printing is deemed as a symbol of a photographer's self-worth, not just a means of income. This shift away from print, a vital part of photography, raises questions about Fujifilm's commitment to the craft.

Following lesser-known and local photographers can stimulate creativity, foster authentic interactions, and alleviate the pressure for perfection, as per one writer's journey. Their fresh, experimental work, often unrestricted by fame's expectations, encourages exploration beyond typical genres. The sense of community, meetups, and inspiration to capture local scenes also offer a counterpoint to the distant locales showcased by renowned photographers. Including such photographers in your social media circles can enrich your photographic journey, potentially unveiling unexplored niches close to home.

Lux's new Halide 2.13 update optimizes the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button for camera controls, offering users the ability to toggle focus, cycle lenses, switch exposure modes, and capture RAW images. Despite a slight delay with the Action button, Lux recommends using the volume button for capturing photos. The update also enhances other iPhone 15 Pro features, including the new 5x telephoto lens and reduced shutter lag.

Distributing independent films online has never been easier, thanks to digital platforms that democratize access and provide diverse monetization options. Filmmakers can directly distribute their work, reaching a global audience without the need for intermediaries, while cost-effectively promoting and showcasing their creative work. These platforms offer tools for marketing, data analytics, and on-demand viewing, and support diverse content. Pre-distribution steps include creating audience personas, identifying marketing channels, and producing compelling trailers.
