Capture One Ends Branded Camera Software, Unveils Future Plans
Capture One reshapes its software suite, discontinuing certain Express versions and sharpening its focus on a subscription-led future for professional photographers.
In a move that has surprised many photographers, Capture One has announced the discontinuation of its co-branded software versions for Fujifilm, Nikon, and Sony cameras. The decision, effective immediately, is part of the company's strategy to consolidate its product offerings and focus on the development of new products, including the upcoming Capture One for iPad and Capture One Live.
For current users of the branded versions of Capture One Pro, there are several options available. Subscription customers will receive a free upgrade to Capture One Pro 22 in April, while perpetual license holders of the latest version will also be eligible for a free upgrade. Users of older versions can upgrade to Capture One Pro 22 at a discounted rate until April 18, 2022.
While the discontinuation raises questions about the future of the free Express versions, Capture One has assured that existing customers will continue to receive support for the lifetime of Capture One 22. The company's commitment to innovation and expansion suggests a forward-thinking approach that could redefine the creative workflow for photographers.
As Capture One gears up for new product launches, photographers are encouraged to review their current licenses and consider the benefits of upgrading or subscribing.
