"No Drone Zone"" signs, a common sight in public spaces, have been the focus of much confusion and debate among drone enthusiasts and the public alike. The term, coined by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2015, denotes a 5-mile radius around airports as a no-fly zone for drones. However, the term's misuse by local governments, event organizers, and drone pilots themselves has led to widespread misunderstanding. The FAA controls all U.S. airspace and only they can deem an area as hazardous for drone flying.

The confusion has only escalated with the release of DJI's sub-250g Mavic Mini drone in 2019, attracting more hobbyists unfamiliar with drone laws. The 'No Drone Zone' signs often lack legal enforceability unless backed by FAA regulations or other official guidelines. Furthermore, the media's portrayal of drones as invasive or militaristic has fueled public paranoia, leading to more 'No Drone Zone' signs posted without regard for airspace regulations. Always check for Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) using FAA’s B4UFly or AirControl apps, and remember - when in doubt, educating oneself about the actual laws and regulations governing drone use is paramount.

Sony's new addition, the BURANO, is a compact cinema camera that packs a punch. With a price tag of $25,000, this camera mirrors the trend of reducing size but not capability. It boasts the same sensor as a Sony a1 but requires a 2x crop for high frame rates. The BURANO also features Sony's electronically variable ND filter and a new 16bit codec. Despite its size, it maintains its professional status with filmmakers often adding accessories, making it appear larger on set.

Despite losing his sight due to an unfortunate side-effect of medication, photographer Kurt Weston continues to capture compelling visuals using his Sony RX100 II. Weston, who perceives the world like an impressionist painting, has turned his attention to creating autobiographical images that represent his vision loss. He has showcased his work in art exhibitions, gaining international acclaim. Weston's inspiring journey is a testament that passion and creativity can overcome even the greatest obstacles.

Traveling for photography can be a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. To make the most of your trips, embrace four key mindsets: seize opportunities in all weather conditions, as gloomy skies or rain could add unique elements to your shots; allow flexibility in your itinerary for unexpected discoveries; remember to enjoy the journey and embrace being a tourist, incorporating local food and experiences into your exploration; and connect with local people, whose stories can bring your images to life and provide deeper insights into the places you visit.

Determining the best time to sell used camera gear hinges on several factors, including gear type, condition, market demand, and timing. Post-upgrade periods often mark a good time to sell as your equipment is still relatively current. Monitoring market trends for gear demand can also influence the decision. Maintaining gear in excellent condition ensures higher resale value. Timing sales to align with peak photography seasons or during uncertain economic times when potential buyers prefer used gear can be beneficial. Lastly, understanding your equipment's value and personal needs are crucial to avoid depreciation and maximize resale value.
