 PRODUCTION MASTERY

In 2023,

  • Hollywood had its longest writer and actor strikes in decades, leading to a slowdown in new shows.

  • The binge-watch era is over as major streaming players revert to old-school bundle tactics to keep subscriber numbers up after raising prices and the market softened.

  • TV networks and streamers are taking a hit in their upfront advertising commitments compared to previous years.

  • Short-form video platforms like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Snapchat are focused on creator revenue-sharing instead of controversial creator fund tactics.

As for AI, there’s still work to be done.

Is the binge-watch era dying?

 CREATOR ECONOMY

Mario Sorrenti for MyCalvins Campaign

AI-generated influencers are making their way into our feeds, but are they as influential as their human counterparts? The jury's still out.

With their perfectly constructed looks and lifestyles, virtual influencers like Lil Miquela and AI chatbots from Meta might seem like the stuff of marketing dreams.
Yet, something’s missing: envy.

That green-eyed monster that creeps out when we see real people living their best lives doesn’t seem to awaken when the content is from the uncanny valley.

It turns out, when we know the influencer doesn’t have real skin to clear up or use a detox tea on, we don’t feel as compelled to compare ourselves.

Sure, the AI might offer a new level of diversity and representation – but at what cost, when it’s a copy of a creator rather than the real deal?

As the line between real and digital blurs, it’s transparency that’s becoming the real currency in the influencer economy.

Are AI-generated influencers really #Goals or just #Nope?
