Analog photographer Ari Jaaksi just threw a digital curveball.

He isn’t just waving the white flag to AI, he’s handing them the crown, declaring that AI’s generated images as “the best thing that has happened to photography”.
Whoa, Ari, how’s that?

His take is actually quite interesting: It’s not about whether we like AI-created art. It’s about AI liberating the craft like the camera did in the 1800s.

Just like how photography’s invention in the 1800s took bread off illustrators’ tables but birthed a new era of artist freedom and creativity, AI’s entry into the photo space can free photographers from mundane gigs.
Back then, paintings had to step up their game and get weird to stay relevant, birthing impressionism, expressionism, and surrealism.

Fast forward to today, with AI in the frame—and Ari sees photographers free to focus on the truly artistic while a neural network churns out slideshows and product pics at, well, the click of a button.

The upshot? Photography could be heading to unseen horizons, thanks to ‘bots with an eye for beauty.

Could AI actually be photography's savior?

Everyone and their mama has heard about OpenAI’s Sora now.

While some filmmakers got excited about Sora’s potential, others warned its current limitations mean filmmakers can’t yet customize or control Sora’s output enough to compete with what’s already being produced using traditional filmmaking methods.

It's still far from a tool pros can use to create full-length features without losing control over the creative process.

“Every single three years, Silicon Valley tells Hollywood that they’re gonna totally disaggregate them and change everything and they’re finished, and Hollywood survives and thrives,” Edward Saatchi, an AI producer with Fable Studios, said. “I don’t want people to worry too much without the perspective of the Valley is always trying to be rude to Hollywood.”

The tech and media were not the only industries to watch. Klaris Law noted that content created solely by AI is not eligible for copyright protection and is considered public domain. That could make competition in creative industries more fierce.

“Studios will have to be very careful not to integrate generative AI into their process,” Klaris said. “They’re basically producing public-domain works, so there’s a real risk of incorporating generative AI into the workflow.”

OpenAI's cautious rollout, which includes restrictions on sexual or violent content, has some wondering if a more open-source model will eventually dominate the space.

Still, the potential for Hollywood disruption is a bit more concrete than before.
At the very least, some marketing agencies are drooling over the possibility of a “Sora-cut” ad before the technology trickles down to creators outside the verified studio system.

YouTube has launched the ‘Collab’ tool for its Shorts feature, a direct challenge to rival app TikTok’s popular ‘Duet’ feature.

'Collab' allows creators to make videos alongside existing clips. While both formats started with music-focused beginnings, YouTube's freeform style gives creators more room to experiment, often leading to more ambitious collaborations.

The feature’s been in testing since December, when YouTube also started letting creators sample audio from Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, and more.

There’s no word on when 'Collab' might expand beyond Shorts, where it’s been a hit so far, fueling a jump to 15 billion weekly views.

Either way, the race to win over creators, and their fans, is clearly heating up.
