VISUAL CREATORS
For your artistic side.
AI-generated imagery is disrupting the world of stock photography, sparking both excitement and anxiety. Platforms like Shutterstock and Getty Images are starting to feature AI-generated photos alongside those from human photographers.
Although some argue that AI is simply expanding the market and filling in gaps, others fear that it could make human-created stock photos obsolete.
Adobe, a major player in the creative software space, has embraced generative AI, with its execs comparing it to the early days of digital cameras.
āWhen artists say to me, āI hate generative AI, why are you even allowing it in any of your products?ā Iām like, āBecause [otherwise] people are gonna go to illegitimate places and youāre going to end up getting paid nothingā.
This is a revolution, this is the new digital camera, and we have to embrace it.ā
But as algorithms improve, will there still be room for artists behind the lens? Itās a question thatās sparking a debate about the future of visual content and the livelihoods of the photographers who create it.
PRODUCTION MASTERY
The commercial aspects of creativity.
Indie filmmakers are schooling Hollywood on how to stretch a dollar without snapping creativity's spine. A flick's budget doesn't have to dim its creative glow. In fact, it can be the mother of invention.
Remember the name: LED lighting ā it's top-billed now, cutting costs with every low-watt scene. And itās not just the lights; cameras like the URSA Mini Pro are slimmer but still packing that high-res punch.
But it's not just about the gear; it's the tech tango. iPads playing dailies and proxies are the new director's chair, while MacBook Pros are editing havens on the go. And color us impressed with custom LUTs and ARRI's Log C4, turning color grading into an art form. Even our pocket pal, the smartphone, is chasing the action with wheels in motion.
The indie playbook isnāt just a cult hit; it's a masterclass in making movies that matters ā without the Hollywood bloat. Itās a reel revolution, proving that a strapped budget doesn't have to be a cut.
So, dim the lights and roll the camerasāinnovation is the new blockbuster, no matter the budget..
CREATOR ECONOMY
Navigating the digital creative world.
TikTokās singing a different tune after striking a deal with Universal Music Group (UMG).
The music powerhouse, home to the likes of Taylor Swift and Drake, pulled its catalog from the platform back in February. Now, theyāre making amends.
The āmulti-dimensionalā deal not only brings UMGās artists back but also includes commitments to manage AI-created music and venture into new moneymaking areas like e-commerce.
As part of the agreement, TikTok will help artists cash in beyond simple streams while promising clearer tracking on tunes.
The full details of the agreement ā including how artist royalties were hashed out ā havenāt been revealed, but both parties seem eager to āprotect human artistryā while exploring fresh forms of musical engagement.
